Far North Queensland Safari 1st July to 12th July 2010

On 01st July I set out from Cairns with Oztours on a 12 day Far North Queensland 4WD
camping Safari travelling to the most northern tip of Australia and also Thursday and
Horne Islands. The Daintree tropical rainforest was most interesting as was the trip on
the Bloomfield track – great for the 4WD enthusiast. The trip became boring when we
travelled for days through vast cattle stations with scrub and low bush on both sides of
the most rough and corrugated roads you will find in the country. The Iron Range and
Horne Island US/Australian WW2 air bases were of interest as we have never heard m
much about these huge war time bases. All things considered the Red Centre, The
Kimberleys and the Pilbara have much more to offer than FNQ. Oztours did not match
the two Swagman Tours camping safari’s I had completed earlier so all in all it was a
little disappointing.
